Figure Of Cloud Strife In A Dress

As a lover of men, dresses and men in dresses, you can imagine how excited I was to see Square Enix announce its collaboration with Play Arts Kai on a figurine celebrating Cloud Strife’s cross-dressing adventure in Final Fantasy VII Remake. And even better, it has nothing to do with all the NFT nonsense that the Japanese company has been getting into recently.

The product is based on the wall market section of the Final Fantasy VII remake, the climax of which sees the game’s heroes infiltrate the mansion of local crime lord Don Corneo. While the lustful mobster regularly gathers young women to be his “wives” for the night, Cloud must disguise himself to break through the gang’s headquarters unnoticed and save his childhood friend Tifa Lockhart.

Cloud is already very pretty, so it’s usually a matter of finding the right dress to match her look. While researching and completing a series of side quests before submitting Cloud and Aerith Gainsborough to Don Corneo’s perverted beauty contest, the protagonists wear increasingly extravagant outfits. The second best (my favorite) is used for this new collector’s item.

The articulated figure is by no means inexpensive, but it apparently comes with a stand, as well as a separate face and unique hands, allowing you to display it in a variety of poses. Square Enix also takes great care to emphasize the “special attention” paid to “every detail”, including makeup, braids, ruffled textures and skirt folds of the dress.

I’m not a numbers man at all, but I have to admit, this looks like fun. Pre-orders open today with a release window scheduled for July 2023. If you are a completist, you can also pre-order figures of Aerith and Tifa in their own dresses. Unlike star-crossed lovers, however, we can wonder if Square Enix chose the best of Ms. Lockhart’s outfits, but that’s a conversation for another day.
